The importance and usefulness of natural active yeasts, and particularly of lactic yeasts, in the nourishment and bioregulation of the intestinal apparatus of horses has been common knowledge for quite some time now. However, problems pertaining to the production, preservation and use of this product have limited its use considerably hitherto.

Said yeasts have now been made available to breeders as TURVAL 6 Daily complementary fodder which is capable of maintaining the yeast's probiotic properties inaltered and guaranteeing its preservability.

FUNCTIONS

The fodder's lactic yeastsfeature enzimes capable of playing a fundamental part in digestion processes regarding sugars (especially lactose thanks to enzime activity brought about by the beta-galctosydasis enzime), absorbing nutritional principles and the formation of co-enzimatic factors.

These yeasts have also proven to be excellent bioregulators and modulators of intestinal bacteric flora (probiotic function). This process allows animals to reach and maintain an optimum level of health (with improved conversion rates), which in turn leads to better plastic yields.

Once the lactic yeasts in TURVAL 6 Daily have been introduced into the anomals intestine, they perform a direct and indirect function on its intestinal microbic flora. Direct action is carried out on and against coliforms and many pathogenic enterobactreria. Indirect action, on the other hand, is carried out by favouring the development of specific lactobacilli, which are already found in the animal's intestines, and by creating the intestinal microflora which is necessary to maintain the animal's intestinal microbic balance.

The particular probiotic properties lie in their capability to guarantee high replication vitality in the presence of extremely low pH (3-3.5). This is also due to their external cell walls which are high in chitin content. They are unaffected by gastric juices and therefore reach the animal's intestines effectively and continue their metabolic functions.

They also act on an intestinal level by breaking up lactose and causing simple sugars to ferment. As a result of this, they favour the development of lactic acid which reduces the intestinal pH. This reduces the development of enteric coliforms and favours that of lactic yeasts which leads to an improved microbic balance.

These yeasts differ considerably from beer yeast (saccaromices cervisae), they belong to the lactic bacteria category, although they are eucariote, and their metabolic activity is more effective than that of beer yeast, as it has been observed that:

they are capable of penetrating the gastric barrier effectively and reaching a greater part of the animal's intestines;
they are marked by high replication and implanting characteristics;
they favour the development of intestinal lactobacilli and of the microflora which is useful in the intestinal balance by means of a specific metabolic function (see production of lactic acid); they are more effective in maintaining the balance of the bacteric flora and act as a growth factor;

they inhibit the growth of putrefactive bacteria and reduce the unpleasant smell of the animal's faeces.

The active principle of TURVAL 6 Daily fodder comprises:

- a mixture containing a fermentative substratum metabolised in simple molecolar units;
- the active biomass of a mixture of lactic yeasts including Klujveromyces;
- a wide range of cellular metabolites, such as aminoacids, group B vitamins, enzimes, coenzimes, nucleotides and so on.

USE AND DOSAGE

TURVAL 6 daily is added to the daily ration of fodder in the following quantities:
foals: 10g per day
weaning colts: 15g per day
one year old colts, adult horses, stallions and brood-mares: 20g per day
In time of colic or at first use: Double and triple doses are recommended.

The delivery is carried out within 48/96 hours Mondays to Fridays except Sundays and Public Holidays.
